House Headed to Houston

ROUND ROCK - The Houston Astros announced today that the club has purchased the contract of Round Rock Express catcher/infielder J.R. House and placed infielder Kazuo Matsui on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 13. House will join the team tonight against Arizona at Minute Maid Park.

Today's call-up marks the second stint with the Astros for House, who also appeared for Houston in four games in 2006. House, 28, is batting .303 with 17 homeruns and 55 RBI for Round Rock. He has appeared in 119 games for the Express, including 69 starts at first base and 36 starts at catcher.

House has appeared in parts four Major League seasons (2003-04, 2006-07), compiling a .175 batting average with three homers and three RBI in 57 at-bats. A non-roster invitee to Major League Spring training, House hit .176 with one home run and four RBI for the Astros this spring.

Matsui, 32, is hitting .285 with 19 stolen bases, five home runs and 28 RBI in 85 games for the Astros this season. He has started 84 games at second base.

A veteran of five Major League seasons (2004-06 with NY Mets; 2006-07 with Colorado), he is a career .275 hitter with 81 steals, 22 home runs and 159 RBI. Matsui signed a three-year contract prior to this season with the Astros after spending the 2007 season as a member of the Colorado Rockies. Matsui will be eligible to return from the DL on August 28.

Today's transaction marks the 105th for the Express this season.
