New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Robert Parnell was perfect through four innings of his Zephyr Field debut, only his second game at the Triple-A level. But the Iowa Cubs broke through for four runs in the fifth, and that was enough to hold off the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday, 4-2. Parnell struck out the side in the first inning, then recorded a pair of strikeouts in each of the next three frames, giving him nine through four perfect innings. Bobby Scales singled to left with one out in the fifth to give the Cubs their first baserunner, and they would go on to score five times in the inning to chase the Zephyrs' young right-hander.

After Scales' single, Koyie Hill and Luis Figueroa had consecutive RBI doubles to give Iowa a 2-1 lead. Andres Blanco followed with a run-scoring single to extend the lead, which grew to 4-1 after a double steal, with Blanco taking home on the throw to second.

Parnell (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in five innings while striking out 10.

Mike Nickeas had an RBI single in the second inning to give the Zephyrs the early lead. Andy Green later added a sacrifice fly in the seventh, but the Z's stranded eight baserunners in losing to the Cubs for the fifth consecutive night.

The Zephyrs and Iowa meet again on Sunday afternoon at 2:00, with LHP Willie Collazo facing RHP Angel Guzman, on a rehabilitation assignment from the Chicago Cubs.
