Owen Sound Attack News Release

Tonight the Owen Sound Attack were fueled to win not only from their tough loss against London last night, but because the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds were back at the Bayshore since beating the Attack out in game 7 of Round 2 of the 2017-18 playoffs. The Bears were looking for revenge.

Right into the first, the Soo opened scoring when Zach Trott found the back of the net past rookie netminder Andrew MacLean, just under five minutes into the period.

The first period was quiet for much of its remainder. Both teams received penalities just under halfway through the period to send the game to 4 on 4 hockey. Neither team found the back of the net.

Brady Lyle got the crowd pumped up as he found his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Mitchell Russell and Jackson Doherty, to bring it to a tied game. Owen Sound saw their first powerplay of the game when Hounds Joe Carroll got caught tripping with just under 5 minutes left to play in the first.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal in period 1 were 14-13, in favour of the Soo.

Period two started out with Daylon Groulx heading the box for tripping, sending the Soo to their first powerplay of the game. They capitalized on the one man advantage and Keeghan Howdeshell found the back of the nets for his 16th goal of the season to bring the Hounds up 2-1. Halfway into the second, Owen Sound gets another penalty as Jackson Doherty gets sent off for high sticking and again, the Soo take advantage. Going 2 for 2 on powerplays, the Soo find their third goal of the evening when Cole MacKay takes a shot past MacLean.

The Attack found some motivation, and captain Nick Suzuki grabbed his 18th goal of the year thanks to a great pass by Daylon Groulx and the Attack only trailed by 1. This didn't last long as the Soo responded, insuring their lead as Barrett Hayton scores his 14th goal of the season to bring the Soo's lead to 4-2.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal at the end of two are 27-24, in favour of the Hounds.

Attack were on 4 on 4 hockey briefly to open the third period, and then quickly headed to the powerplay when Hounds Joe Carroll was sent for slashing. This didn't stop Carroll though as six seconds after he got out of the box, he scored his 4th goal of the season to bring the Hounds lead to 5-2.

Owen Sound's assistant captain was fed up with the gap in scoring, and Kevin Hancock put one to the back of the net to mark his 22nd goal of the season. Owen Sound trailed 5-3 just over 6 minutes into the third.

Nick Suzuki scored his 19th goal of the season with just over 5 minutes left in the game, giving the crowd some hope. Owen Sound pulls Guzda from the net and the Hounds Barrett Hayton scores on the empty net, final score 7-2.

Mark McDade shots at the conclusion of the game were 36-38 in favour of Owen Sound.

Aidan Dudas was awarded the Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player of The Game Award, as voted upon by the fans.

The 1st star of the night was The Hounds Morgan Frost with 5 assists. Joe Carroll got 2nd star with his 1 goals and 1 assist on the night, and Owen Sound's Igor Chibrikov earned the 3rd star.

The Attack will be looking to bounce back tomorrow afternoon at home, as they take on the Saginaw Spirit for their first match up of the season. Tomorrow also marks another ICP Sunday Skate! Be sure to come out to skate with the team and receive autographs!
