Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

(Greensboro, NC) - Jason Corder picked up two more hits and another RBI on Tuesday night, but the Hot Rods missed too many chances, culminating in a 15-3 loss to Greensboro. The loss evens the Hot Rods (27-22, 61-58) series with Greensboro (17-33, 54-66) at one game each heading into the third game on Wednesday night. It also leaves Bowling Green four games out of first as Asheville picked a win at West Virginia.

Corder's strong outing began with a single in the second inning with the Hot Rods down 1-0. Corder led off the inning with his base hit to center. He went to second on an error and, two batters later, scored on a single to center by Anthony Scelfo to tie the game at 1-1.

He helped the Hot Rods take the lead in the next inning, driving home Jake Jefferies with a single to center off the glove of Greensboro's shortstop. The single advanced Isaias Velasquez to third, before he scored on a groundout by Justin Reynolds to give the Hot Rods a 3-1 lead.

Greensboro came back two innings later against Matt Moore. Three of the first four batters in the inning reached before Daniel Pertusati laced a single to centerfield to tie the game at 3-3. Moore finished five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits while striking out six. He now has 156 strikeouts to lead the South Atlantic League.

After Moore left, the Grasshoppers beat up the Hot Rods bullpen, plating four runs in the sixth inning against Jamie Bagley, highlighted by a two-run single from Justin Bass. Bagley lasted .2 innings, giving up four runs on five hits to fall to 2-5.

After 1.1 scoreless from Michael Jarman, Greensboro jumped in Diego Echeverria for eight runs in the eighth. Isaac Galloway had the big hit of the inning with a Grand Slam to left-center field, the first Grand Slam allowed by the Hot Rods in 2009. A few batters later, with the bases loaded again, Justin Bass laced a three-run double to left field, plating the final three runs to extend the lead to 15-3.

For the Hot Rods offensively, it was another frustrating night as they left on two men in each of the first and second innings. They left six on base over the first four innings, despite getting the lead-off man on in three of the first four innings. In the eighth, however, they missed their biggest opportunity. They loaded the bases with nobody out, trailing 7-3, but reliever Brandon Todd struck out Tyler Hauschild and Robi Estrada before retiring Scelfo on a bouncer back to the mound. As a team Bowling Green finished 2-15 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11 runners.

Game three of the series comes on Wednesday night as the Hot Rods send RHP Chris Andujar (10-3, 2.81) to the mound against Greensboro RHP Graham Johnson (5-7, 5.02). First pitch is at 6:05 PM CDT. You can follow the game on the radio beginning at 5:50 PM with Tom Gauthier on 1340 WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
