Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

DAYTON, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods had a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the eighth, but the Dayton Dragons scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to steal a 4-2 win. It was the first Hot Rods loss of the 2018 season.

It was a scoreless game through five innings, although both teams had multiple chances to crak the scoreboard.

Ultimately, the Hot Rods scored first.

In the top of the sixth, 2B Zach Rutherford was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. DH Brendan McKay then followed with an RBI double, giving the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, 1B Devin Davis then singled, which scored McKay, and the Hot Rods led 2-0 after six innings.

RHP Alex Valverde turned in a solid first outing of the season, throwing five innings of four-hit, shutout ball. He walked two and struck out five, but ultimately received a no decision.

In that fateful eighth inning, the Dragons worked a lead off walk, which started a snowball effect for Dayton. They sent eight batters to the plate, using three hits and a Hot Rods error to take a 4-2 lead, which ultimately was the final score.

RHP Nick Padilla (1-10, 6.00) took the loss for the Hot Rods, as he pitched the eighth inning. RHP Cory Thompson (1-0, 0.00) earned the win.

The Hot Rods head to South Bend for four games, beginning at 7:05pm Eastern Daylight Time tomorrow night. LHP Brendan McKay will make his pitching debut with the Hot Rods. RHP Cory Abbott will make his first start for the Cubs as well.
