Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
The Hot Rods won the fourth-straight with a walk-off win against the IronBirds last night, securing a series victory in the process. Today, BG looks to equal their season-long win streak of five-games, which Aberdeen broke up in the first game of the series.
Yesterday... It took 12 innings for the Hot Rods to pull out a 10-9 win on Saturday. Ruben Cardenas finished the night 3-5 with three RBIs, including a home run. In the bottom of the 12th, down by one, Greg Jones hit a deep fly ball to right field that was dropped to bring in the tying and winning runs.
A+ Power... With 56 homers hit this season, the Hot Rods lead all of High-A baseball in the category. The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the next closest team in High-A, sitting eight home runs behind Bowling Green with 48. The Hot Rods 56 homers tie them for third in all of the MiLB. They are the only team out of the top six to not play at the AAA level.
Winning at Home... Bowling Green boasts the best home record in the High-A East this year. With a 14-3 record at Bowling Green Ballpark, the Hot Rods have dominated at home. They haven't lost more than two games in a series in Bowling Green. During this two-series homestand, the Hot Rods are 9-2 and have outscored their opponents 70 to 46.
Visitors from the North... This series is the first this season against an opponent from the North Division for the Hot Rods. Bowling Green will play two teams from the North Division this season, including Aberdeen and Wilmington. The IronBirds crossover with four South Division teams this season, playing Bowling Green, Hickory, Greenville, and Rome in 2021.
Yesterday's Notes... Cardenas had his team-leading 11th multi-hit game of the year... This was also his eighth multi-RBI game of the season... Qsar had his sixth multi-hit game of 2021... Trevino had his second multi-hit game this year... La Sorsa tied a team-high 5.0 innings pitched... All Hot Rods hitters who had a plate appearance reached base... Nine batters recorded hits... The Hot Rods are 2-0 this season in extra-inning games... Bowling Green is 7-9 this year when being out-hit by opponents... BG is 14-7 when scoring first... The Hot Rods are 4-5 in one-run games... Bowling Green is 9-1 this homestand... They have the best record at home in the High-A East at 14-3...
Now pitching: Michael Mercado... The Hot Rods righty has put together his best back-to-back performances this season. Over hist last two starts, he has pitched 9.0 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits. His ERA during this span is 2.00. These two outings have dropped his ERA from 6.60 on May 27th, to 4.88 after Tuesday's opener against Aberdeen.
