Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
The Hudson Valley Renegades waited until the eighth inning to start hitting. They put three on the board in the eighth and two more in the ninth to beat Brooklyn, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park on Coney Island.
The win gives Hudson Valley four in a row and caps a week in which they won five out of six from the Cyclones.
The pitching continues to be outstanding for the Renegades, serving up their third shutout of the week. Hayden Wesneski started and earns the win to improve to 1-1. The righty tossed seven innings and allowed two hits and two walks while striking out nine. His ERA is down to 1.49.
Nick Ernst and Zach Greene worked the final two innings for the Gades to complete the two-hitter.
Offensively, the Gades managed four hits through the first seven innings but made their four hits in the eighth and ninth count. With one out in the eighth, Evan Alexander walked followed by a Josh Smith double to break the scoreless tie. The Cyclones walked Ezequiel Duran intentionally and Josh Breaux doubled to left to score Smith. Then Eric Wagaman hit a sacrifice fly that scored Duran.
A fielding error in the ninth by Ronny Mauricio brought home two more for the Gades to close out the scoring.
Hudson Valley heads home to begin a seven-game series with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, including a doubleheader on Friday night. The Gades will play 13 games over the next two weeks against Jersey Shore and Wilmington.
