Hot Rods Earn Series Win, Beat Captains 8-3

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods bounced back after their first loss in 13 games with an 8-3 win over the Lake County Captains, to win the series three games to one.

The Captains were the first ones on the board, when LF Jose Medina scored on a base hit from 1B Ulysses Cantu and the Captains had a 1-0 lead over the Hot Rods in the second.

Bowling Green took the lead right back in the bottom of the second, thanks to a double from RF Eleardo Cabrera that scored two and gave Bowling Green the 2-1 lead. The Hot Rods added on two more runs in the third, as LF Moises Gomez crushed a two run home run 446 feet to left field to give the Hot Rods a 4-1 lead.

They added on another run in the fourth when 2B Vidal Brujan doubled and later scored on an error. A RBI double from CF Carl Chester picked up an RBI double in the very next inning at the Hot Rod had a 6-1 lead over Lake County.

RHP Tommy Romero got the start for the Hot Rods and pitched four innings, allowing six hits, two runs, two walks, and he struck out four. RHP Orlando Romero was the first one out of the pen for the Hot Rods, and he pitched two shutout innings with a bunch of zeros except for four strikeouts. He picked up his first win of the season out of the pen.

The Hot Rods got to eight in the sixth inning, when DH Zach Rutherford scored SS Taylor Walls with a double, and then came around to score on a single from Gomez.

The Captains scored their final run in the seventh inning when CF Todd Isaacs hit an RBI double to make the score 8-3. LHP Hunter Schryver pitched the final three innings out of the pen and allowed three hits, one run, one walk, and struck out five in route to his eighth save of the season.

The Hot Rods start a nine game road trip next, as they will be in Fort Wayne tomorrow. First pitch is at 6:05pm CST and starters or the series have yet to be announced.
