EVERETT, Wash. - A combination of baserunning and hitting allowed the Hillsboro Hops (2-2) to score six runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Hops maintained their lead the rest of the game, defeating the AquaSox (2-2), 7-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The AquaSox struck first in the fourth inning when Jack Larsen hit an RBI single to left field, driving in Austin Shenton. Their lead was short-lived. In the bottom of the inning, Ricky Martinez stole second base, putting himself in scoring position when Leodany Perez came to the plate. Perez hit a soft line drive to center field, driving in Martinez and tying the game.
The Hops quickly took the lead and continued to tack on runs in the fourth inning. With six stolen bases and six hits, including a two-RBI triple from Dominic Canzone, the Hops finished the inning ahead, 6-1. Connor Hoover led off the top of the fifth with a triple to center field, scoring when Julio Rodriguez doubled to deep right field.
Hillsboro tacked on one more run in the sixth; leadoff Cam Coursey doubled, scoring when Axel Andueza singled to center field. Unable to score again, the AquaSox fell, 7-2.
WRAPPING IT UP
At the plate, Larsen went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one double. Rodriguez and Hoover had one extra-base hit apiece. On the mound, RHP George Kirby pitched 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out four. RHP Mike Salvatore closed the game, striking out one and allowing no hits or runs.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Frogs return to Ron Tonkin Field on Saturday, May 8 at 6:35 p.m. for the fifth of six games against the Hops. Tune in to the game on AM 1520 KXA! The AquaSox will play their first game at Funko Field since 2019 on Tuesday, May 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
