Hillsboro Hops News Release

The Hillsboro Hops fell just short to the Vancouver Canadians 5-4 in the final game of the series. The "Battle of the Boro" went back and forth, but it was the C's who claimed the series 4-2. Vancouver won the first three games. Hillsboro bounced back and won games four and five behind the bat of Andy Yerzy . The Canadians prevailed in the sixth game though to win the first round of the battle.

Drey Jameson got the start for the Hops and was countered by Paxton Schultz for the Canadians. The game started as a pitchers duel, as Jameson and Schultz put up zeros over the first four frames. Jameson struggled in the top of the fifth though. Luis De Los Santos and Sebastian Espino each drove in a run to put the C's on top 2-0. Jameson pitched a scoreless sixth inning to cap off his night. The right-hander allowed two earned runs, struck out six, while not allowing a walk.

Vancouver added a run in the top of the seventh when Spencer Horwitz scored on a fielding error by Hillsboro's center fielder Eduardo Diaz . The Hops got on the board in the bottom of the seventh to make the scores 3-1. Blaze Alexander led off the inning with a double to right field. Now with two outs, Buddy Kennedy drew a walk to put runners on at first and second. Reece Hampton came through with a base-hit to center field to bring in Alexander. The C's went onto add two insurance runs in the top of the eighth to bring their lead up to 5-1.

Things got interesting in the bottom of the ninth when Canadian's relieverWill McAffer couldn't find the strike zone. Alexander led off with a walk. With one out, Tristin English was hit by a pitch and Buddy Kennedy walked to load the bases. McAffer continued to struggle to find the zone, throwing a wild pitch that brought in Alexander to score and moved English and Kennedy to second and third. McAffer's night was done after walking Hampton for his third of the inning. The C's turned to Parker Caracci to close things out with the bases loaded and one out. Caracci got a big second out when he forced Andy Yerzy to pop up in foul territory to the catcher. Now with the game on the line,Leodany Perez delivered a two-out two-RBI single to bring the Hops within a run. Caracci was able to pitch out of the jam though, forcing Alexander Hernandez to pop out to end the game.

Hillsboro (7-11) will have Monday off, and then they will travel to play the Tri-City Dust Devils in the opener of a six-game series on Tuesday. Airtime will be 6:00 pm on Alt 102.3 FM and alt1023.iheart.com. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
