Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Sept. 4, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators could not overcome a pair of Greensboro home runs as the Grasshoppers won, 5-3, on Sunday evening at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, pushing the Intimidators to brink of elimination. As a results of Hickory's 10-5 loss to Greenville tonight, Kannapolis can still make the playoffs by winning on Monday combined with another Hickory loss.

Greensboro's Mark Canha (25) and Isaac Galloway (16) connected on two- run home runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Kannapolis never led and did not score its first run until trailing by three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Hoppers starter Alex Caldera (3-1) earned the win with 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Grant Dayton worked two scoreless inning of relief for the save (5).

Kannapolis starter Matt Heidenreich (10-10) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits over 6 and 2/3 innings. It was only the third time this year Heidenreich -- who was making his league- leading 27th start -- allowed multiple home runs.

The Intimidators got on the board in the sixth inning when Collin Kuhn smashed a leadoff double to right field, advanced to third on a Keenyn Walker ground out, and scored on a Carlos Sanchez base hit. Ross Wilson singled to lead off the seventh inning, and Marcus Semien doubled him over to third base. Miguel Gonzalez drove in Wilson with a single to left field, and Semien scored when Collin Kuhn hit into a double play, one of three turned by the Hoppers, to pull the Intimidators with two runs, 5-3.

Kannapolis and Greensboro are scheduled to play the final game of the 2011 regular season on Monday at 1:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
