Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Casey Hudspeth turned in a solid start on the mound and Mark Ori and Jhon Florentino combined to drive in five runs as the Hooks beat Midland 10-3 in the series opener Tuesday night at Whataburger Field before 5,429.

Corpus Christi (12-12) has won four of its last five, pulling within 3 ½ games of Midland (16-9) for first place in the Texas League South Division.

The Hooks wasted little time against Midland starter Chris Farley, scoring three times in the first inning. Drew Meyer hit a ground-rule double to right-center with one away. After a walk by Drew Locke and a wild pitch, Ori lined a two-run single up the middle for a 2-0 advantage. Two batters later, Florentino tacked on another run with an RBI single to center.

Farley (0-3) failed to reach the fourth, yielding four runs on six hits over three innings. He walked four, uncorked two wild pitches and struck out one.

Collin DeLome belted his league-leading eighth home run of the season to open the fourth, a no-doubter into the right-field bullpen. DeLome has now hit safely in eight consecutive games.

Corpus Christi then batted around, plating three more runs on three hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly. Ori drove in his third run of the night with a single to right field. Mitch Einertson recorded his second double in as many at-bats, a shot into right-center for a 7-2 Hooks lead. With the bases loaded and one away, Koby Clemens capped the scoring on a fly ball to deep right for his second RBI as a Hook.

Hudspeth was touched for two runs in the first two innings, including a home run from Corey Brown, but settled down the rest of the way. He surrendered just two hits over the next four innings, facing three over the minimum.

The right-hander was charged with three runs (two earned) and seven hits. Hudspeth walked two, fanned four and threw 93 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Andy Van Hekken tossed two innings of shutout relief to secure the victory.

Ori finished the evening 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a walk and three RBIs. Meyer was also 3-for-4, scoring twice on a double and a walk. Florentino had three hits in four at-bats, driving in two.

The series continues Wednesday night at Whataburger Field when lefty Douglas Arguello (0-1) faces Midland's Graham Godfrey (2-2). First pitch is 7:05.
