Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO - Jordan Jankowski struck out eight over five scoreless innings and Carlos Perdomo clubbed a key two-run double in the fifth Thursday night as Corpus Christi bested Frisco 4-1 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks (11-9, 45-45) have won seven of their last eight games.

Tony Kemp coaxed a walk from Alex Claudio to lead-off the game. Kemp moved to second on a sac bunt by Ruben Sosa and then stole third base. Delino DeShields, Jr., rolled a grounder to second to plate Kemp for a 1-0 Hooks lead.

Claudio (1-1), utilizing a tormenting changeup, responded by retiring 12 in a row. Andrew Aplin disrupted his dominance in the fifth by sending a bad-hop single by Guilder Rodriguez at first base. Telvin Nash followed by searing a line-drive into left field. Leo Heras put them in scoring position by placing a sac bunt in front of the mound. Perdomo then drove a 2-2 pitch into the gap in right-center, staking Corpus Christi to a 3-0 advantage.

In the sixth, Ruben Sosa extended his hit streak to six games with a lead-off home run to left field.

Jankowski (3-3) held Frisco to four singles with two failing to leave the infield. He threw 79 pitches, 51 for strikes.

Kyle Smith worked around a walk and a lead-off single to keep the Riders (10-9, 50-38) off the board in the sixth and seventh.

With two on and one away in the eighth, Mitchell Lambson entered from the Corpus Christi bullpen. Patrick Cantwell greeted him with a base hit to right to load the bases. Odubel Herrera then chopped a high bounder over the mound. Perdomo, moving to his right, made the stop behind the bag and flipped to Kemp at second to force Cantwell. Teo Martinez scored on the play, cutting the margin to three. Lambson ended the inning by inducing a lineout to short.

Tyson Perez notched his fifth save after striking out two in a perfect ninth.
