July 11, 2014 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release
Wednesday night, Jefry Marte went 5-for-5 in the RockHounds' 10-6 win over San Antonio.
Thursday, "all" he did was go 3-for-5. Oh, by the way, the third of those hits? A walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.
The RockHounds and Missions exchanged big swings all night. Hunter Renfroe hit a three-run home run in the fourth, giving San Antonio a 3-1 lead. The 'Hounds answered with RBI doubles from Dusty Coleman and Billy Burns in the home half of the fourth (Burns' two-run double gave Billy five RBI in the first two games of the series). Conner Crumbliss belted a two-run home run to right in the fifth, giving the 'Hounds a 6-3 lead, but the Missions rallied back, capped by RBI doubles from Renfroe and Yeison Asencio in the eighth to tie the game at 6-6.
Missions reliever Frank Garces (who entered the game with a 1.47 ERA) came on in the eighth and retired the first five batters he faced, but with the bases empty and two out in the ninth, Marte sent Garces' first pitch over the high wall in the left field. The swing continued Marte's amazing home stand (8-for-10, four doubles, a walk-off home run and three RBI) AND pushed the RockHounds' win streak to seven games.
