Rochester Honkers News Release

Rochester, MN - The Rochester Honkers picked up their third series win of the season beating the Thunder Bay Border Cats 6-3 Sunday at Mayo Field. The Honkers took two of three at home and three of five total against the Border Cats spanning over the past four days.

Drew Bowen (RsJr, Oral Roberts) got the start for the Honkers on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings and leaving with the no decision and the game tied at three. Bowen allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out four batters. Bowen did allow three home runs on the game, all were with nobody on base.

The Honkers would then hand the game over to the bullpen, bringing in Jordan Jakubov (RsJr, Kansas) with a runner on second. Jakubov would get the next two batters out, stranding the runner on base and then yielding to Adam Hoelscher (So, Texas A&M Corpus Christi) for the eighth inning. Hoelscher would allow one hit and strike out one batter for a scoreless eighth inning, and then hit a rough patch in the ninth inning, allowing a walk and a hit, eventually stranding both and picking up the save for the Honkers.

Seth McMullen (So, Winona State) would get the Honkers on the board in the second, hitting his first home run of the season, a line drive home run to straight left field. McMullen would follow up with a walk in the later innings scoring another run. Brett Hambright (Jr, Oregon) led the Honkers in batting in today's game, going 2-for-4 including the go-ahead hit for the second straight day. The Honkers would send ten different batters to the plate and get production out of all but two of them, spreading the hits out well.

The Honkers will now play a three game series against Mankato starting tomorrow. The series will alternate home field with the Honkers getting the first and third game at Mayo Field, while travelling to Mankato on Tuesday. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Jeff McKenzie (So, Delta College) will get the nod on the mound tomorrow, making his fifth start. McKenzie is 1-1 on the season.
