Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

WILLMAR - A strong outing from Charlie Henderson and a couple of timely runs late in the game led to a 5-3 victory for the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers over the Willmar Stingers Sunday night at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The Lunkers, who had giving up five unearned runs the night before, scored two unearned runs of their own, one in the seventh and one in the eighth. In the seventh, a Casey Roche double brought home Vince Bruno, who had taken second base after an error.

In the eighth, a routine throw from pitcher Willmar pitcher Jack Shannon was dropped by Stinger first baseman Eduardo Gonzalez. The ball got away and Paul Toboni scored the fifth Lunker run of the game.

Toboni had a two-run single back in the third which put the Lunkers ahead 3-2 at the time.

Henderson picked up his second win of the season, going six and two-thirds, giving up only one earned run and striking out two.

The loss goes to Shannon for Willmar, who gave up the two unearned runs. In the 9th, Ray Black came on and forced Jason Leblebijian intoa 1-6-3 double play to end the game. Black recorded his second save of the season.

The Lunkers break a three-game losing streak with the win and improve to (7-12). The Stingers fall to (8-9).

The Lunkers and Stingers are back in action Monday, this time at Mills Field in Brainerd. First pitch is set for 7:05.
