Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers dropped their second game in a row to the Willmar Stingers, this time by a score of 6-2, in the last meeting of the two teams in the 2011 season. The Honkers fell to 13-14 in the second half and 6.5 games out of the North Division lead.
The Stingers took an early lead with one run in the first and three in the second. They would scatter two more throughout the game but would be too overwhelming for the Honkers who only managed two runs on six hits.
Kevin Johnson (So, Illinois) got the start on the bump for the Honkers, making his eighth start and ninth appearance of the season. Johnson pitched 5.2 innings allowing 4 runs on six hits. He did strike out a season high eight batters while walking just two in the game. Johnson would be the losing pitcher falling to 3-2 on the season.
Ryan Hambright (So, Oregon) continued to hit the ball well after returning from an injury. Hambright went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple in his first at bat driving in a run. Devin Thaut (Jr, Southern Polytechnic State) would also have a strong night at the plate going 2-for-4. Anthony Hutting (So, Cal State Fullerton) would go 0-for-2 at the plate but get walked twice in the game, coming around to score both times.
The Honkers will take on the front running Alexandria Beetles in a three game series starting tomorrow, Thursday August 4, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. The Honkers will have Cody Peterson (Fr, Madison College) making his Rochester debut on the mound with the start.
