Wausau Woodchucks News Release
GREEN BAY-August 3, 2011-The Wisconsin Woodchucks and the Green Bay Bullfrogs but on a display of pitching tonight as they exchanged zeroes for seven and a half innings, but it was he Bullfrogs that came out on top, 1-0.
Woodchuck starter Adair Robles and Bullfrog starter dealt zeroes for the first several innings, as both starters did a fantastic job of throwing strikes.
The Bullfrogs threatened for the first time in the sixth inning. They got runners on the corners with only one out, trying to score the first run of the game. Robles struck out Duncan McAlpine for the second out, then got Paul Hoenecke to line out to Garret Yrigoyen, who made an outstanding diving catch, to end the inning.
Robles did not factor in the decision, though, as he left with the game tied after the sixth. Robles' final line was six innings pitched, only three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.
Hunter finished the night with seven innings pitched, allowing only one hit, no walks, and eleven strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision, either.
In the eighth inning, Alec Mehrten of the Bullfrogs lined a double over the head of Danny Susdorf in left field off of Anthony Drobnick. The following batter, Nick Stein, lined on 0-2 pitch to right field, scoring Mehrten from second and giving the Bullfrogs the sweep of the double-header.
Drobnick received the loss, falling to 1-5 on the season. Adam Cimber got the win for the Bullfrogs, improving to 2-1.
The Woodchucks will head to La Crosse tomorrow to take on the Loggers for a three game series, with game one starting at 7:05.
