Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Green Bay - The Wisconsin Woodchucks received a power jolt in the fourth, but it would not be enough as they fell to the Green Bay Bullfrogs 8-4 in game one of a double-header.
The Bullfrogs pounced in the second inning, scoring one run off of Woodchuck starter Aaron Gates. Andy Hunter led the inning off with a double. Two batters later, Steven Halcomb bounced a ball down the third base line past the glove of Austin Coleman, scoring Hunter from second, as Halcomb checked in at second with an RBI-double.
Green Bay added to its lead in the following inning. The first four batters reached on three singles and an error by Coleman, the third hit being a two-run single by Andy Hunter. With two outs and runners on second and third,
Andy Hunter lined a single up the middle that scored two more runs, giving the Bullfrogs a 5-0 lead.
The Woodchucks received a sudden bolt of power in the third, however, as they got the game to within a run. With Jamie Bruno on first after a lead-off walk, Coleman made up for his previous error with a two-run blast to left field, his fifth of the season. Two batters later, with Cody Regis on first after another walk, Dimitri De La Fuente scalded a ball to left field off of the scoreboard, making it a 5-4 game.
The Bullfrogs thwarted the Woodchucks comeback attempt in the fourth. With runners on second and third, Hunter came through again with a two-run single, making it a 7-4 lead. The Bullfrogs tacked on another run in the fifth, but it would not matter as they took down the ¬ËChucks in game one, 8-4.
The Woodchucks fell to 11-15, while the Bullfrogs improved to 15-11. Game two will start in approximately 25 minutes.
