Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

(Brainerd Lakes Area) - The Mankato MoonDogs scored three runs in the Top of the 11th inning en route to a 6-3 win over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers Wednesday night at Stewart C. Mills field. The MoonDogs completed a three-game sweep of the Lunkers with the win. The Lunkers got the scoring started with a three-run double from Matt Hillsinger in the Bottom of the 5th. But the MoonDogs would strike back in the Bottom of the 8th with a couple of RBI singles to make it 3-2. Then, Matt Reida scored from third base on an errant throw to second from Lunker catcher Jon Crist. That tied the ballgame at 3.

Mankato scored three runs in the 11th via an RBI single, a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly. Judkins grounded into the fielder's choice bringing home Dahl. Lunker shortstop Tommy Reyes went home with the throw, but Dahl slid under the tag. Dahl had the RBI single that gave Mankato the go-ahead run earlier in the inning.

John McLeod was fantastic on the mound tonight for the Lunkers. The lefty went seven innings, surrendering no runs and striking out five. On the other side, Blake Schwartz went seven innings, giving up three runs and striking out 10. Both pitchers took no decisions.

The win goes to Mike Rivera who pitched a scoreless 10th inning to pick up his second win of the season. The loss goes to Chase Webb who falls to (2-3). Patrick Goelz picks up his seventh save for Mankato.

With the loss, the Lunkers fall to (10-19) on the second half. Mankato extends their winning streak to seven as they improve to (16-10).

The Lunkers travel to Duluth for a three-game series with the Huskies. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 7:05.
