Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, WI - August 3rd, 2011 - The Green Bay Bullfrogs swept the double-header from the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Wednesday night at Joannes Stadium. The ‘Frogs used their offense to carry them to a 8-5 game one victory, and relied on their pitching en route to a 1-0 walk-off win. Andy Hunter went 3-4 with 4 RBI in game one and pitched a game two gem that helped propel the ‘Frogs into first place in the South. Hunter struck out seven in a row in a seven-inning shutout. Nick Stein hit the game winning walk-off single.

Green Bay used 12 hits and eight runs to defeat Wisconsin in the first game. Things began in the bottom of the second after Steven Halcomb drove home Andy Hunter with a groundball double to left. In the third, Hunter knocked in two of his four RBI on a single to center that scored Ryan Allgrove and Jacob May. Ryan Schilter would later single to right to score Phillip Ervin and Hunter.

The Woodchucks began their rally in the fourth. Down 5-0, Austin Coleman hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to 5-2. Two batters later, Dimitri De La Fuente hit the second Woodchuck home run of the night that scored two more and cut the deficit to one. Cory Kyle would sub for ‘Frogs starter Cameron Dullnig and would not allow a base hit to the next four Woodchucks to end the inning. Dullnig pitched three innings in the no decision giving up only three hits, but two of those would yield four runs.

The ‘Frogs would add insurance runs in the fourth and fifth. Hunter hit his second two RBI single that scored Allgrove and May again. In the fifth Nick Stein would single to third, but an overthrow by the third baseman would cost them a run as Halcomb would come around to score on the play. Kyle pitched the final four innings for his fifth win of the year.

The second game of the double-header was a masterful pitching performance on both sides. Neither starter factored into the decision, but struck out a combined 18 batters. Andy Hunter, the ‘Frogs starter, pitched seven scoreless giving up one hit while striking out 11. Woodchucks' starter Adair Robles pitched six scoreless giving up three hits while striking out seven.

Green Bay had a chance to put themselves ahead in the bottom of the sixth. With only one-out and runners on the corners, Robles would get Duncan McAlpine to strike out swinging and Paul Hoenecke to fly out to keep the score at zero. Hoenecke hit a soft-line drive appeared to be ticketed to center field, but Woodchucks' shortstop Garrett Yrigoyen would make a diving catch behind second to save the game.

The ‘Frogs next opportunity came in the bottom of the eighth. Pinch-hitter Jonathan Walsh led off the inning with a double to left. The next hitter Nick Stein tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but fell behind in the count 0-2. Stein tried to bunt the 0-2 pitch, but took it for a ball. On the 1-2 pitch, Stein hit a line-drive to right that brought Walsh around to score the game winning run. Adam Cimber pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win and continues to lower his ERA to an incredible 0.30 with 31 strikeouts and only two walks.

The highlight of this doubleheader was without a doubt Andy Hunter. Except for a single in the fourth, Hunter did not allow a base runner in his seven innings of work. In striking out eleven, Hunter stringed together seven straight strikeouts, striking out two sides in a row.

The Bullfrogs face a two-game road trip at Madison before returning home to face the Mallards in the finale of their three-game series. Saturday August 6th is First Responders Night presented by Bud Light and Y100. The Bullfrogs wear their first responders jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Wisconin Youth Burn Camp.
