(Rochester, MN)-The Rochester Honkers lost the series finale to the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Wednesday, July 4th, in Thunder Bay, Ontario by a final score of 4-3 after seven and a half complete innings. Mother Nature would not allow the Honkers to bat in the ninth and mount a possible comeback to end the first half of the Northwoods League season with a victory. The game would end up lasting four hours due to a rain delay early on and another short lightning delay in the eighth before the umpires would make their final decision to call the game.

Honkers starter Carl O'Neal (St. Mary's TX) gave up a couple of earned runs in the bottom of the first inning and had control issues with five walks, but was solid for the most part over his 5.0 innings of work. O'Neal would not allow another run over the next 4.0 innings, but was handed the no-decision. The San Antonio native struck out six Border Cats.

Honkers third baseman Jordan Parr (Illinois) tied it in the top of the second with a two-run homerun. The long ball was Parr's second of the season.

After about a forty-five minute rain delay after the third inning, the score would remain 2-2 until the bottom of the sixth when the Border Cats scored two runs off of Rochester reliever Dylan Delson (San Mateo) to take the lead 4-2. Nelson would eventually be handed the loss to move his record to 0-2 in 2012.

The Honkers had runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the eighth and scored one on a wild pitch before Ben Lahn (Lamar CC) lined out to the shortstop to end the threat and the inning.

The game would make it to the bottom of the eighth with Thunder Bay on top 4-3 and runners on first and third with one out, but lightning in the area would bring about the second delay of the evening, and eventually end the game indefinitely.

Honkers designated hitter Trevor Podratz (Hawai'i) finished his night 2 for 4 and Jordan Parr finished 1 for 1 with a homerun and two RBIs.

The Honkers end the first half of the Northwoods League season with a record of 15-20.

The Honkers will travel to Duluth, MN tomorrow, July 5th to play game one of a quick two-game series against the Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM with lefty DJ Snelten (Minnesota) on the hill for Rochester. Snelten is 0-2 with a 3.68 ERA in five starts. Opposing Snelten for the Huskies will be fellow lefthander Evan Geist (Florida State). Geist is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA in five starts.

The Honkers will be home again on Saturday, July 7th at 7:05 PM when they battle the Willmar Stingers.
