St. Cloud Rox News Release
The St. Cloud Rox defeated the Duluth Huskies 4-2 Wednesday afternoon to close out the Northwoods League's first half on a high note. The Mankato Moondogs won the first half title and qualified for the 2012 NWL playoffs to face the winner of the second half crown.
Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota) continued his recent hot streak with a 2-3 afternoon. The centerfielder recorded a single, double and two runs scored. Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh) went 2-4 with a double and a home run. The home run in the bottom of the fifth was the eventual game winner. Vazquez also made a spectacular catch in left field to rob the Huskies of an extra base hit.
Zach Hirsch (Nebraska) was excellent on the mound for the Rox on a sweltering afternoon that saw temperatures up to 96 degrees. The southpaw lasted eight innings and gave up just one run on seven hits while striking out six and walking none.
Fireworks Friday is right around the corner as well with a battle with the Beetles scheduled for this Friday July 6th. Fireworks will begin after the game and are presented by Health Partners. Tickets can be purchased at www.stcloudrox.com.
