Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - After sweeping a three game road trip, life at home continues to be difficult for the Odessa Jackalopes who lost two home games over the weekend to fall to 0-3-1 at the Ector County Coliseum. Odessa hosts another pair of games this week against Arizona and Rio Grande Valley.
Last week's record: 0-2-0
This week: Tuesday vs. ARZ, Friday vs. RGV, Saturday @ RGV
Friday vs. Amarillo, 6-2 loss
It was the return of former Jackalopes' goalie, Mike Gorman, on Friday night when the Gorillas visited the Jackshack. Odessa got off to a slow start giving up three first period goals. The Jacks pulled to within one after Mike Lesperance and Brian Swiniarski scored a pair of goals early in the second period in just a 1:14 span. Amarillo came back however with three more goals and Gorman stifled the Jackalopes offense making 30 saves in the contest.
Saturday vs. Rocky Mountain, 3-2 loss
A slow start and three first period goals once again sank Odessa. Jeff Pierce's second period goal and Brian Swiniarski's third period goal with 1:27 remaining in the game gave the Jacks hope as they pulled their goalie for one last effort, but were forced to play with five skaters due to a penalty against Russ Moyer. Juha Toivonen stopped 31 of 34 Rocky Mountain shots to keep the Jacks in the game, but Rocky Mountain held on.
Tuesday vs. Arizona, 7:05 PM
Last time it took a shootout to decide the winner. Former Jacks' forward, Joel Irving, scored the shootout winner in the final round to give Arizona a 3-2 win on November 1st. The road team has won each game in the season series thus far between Odessa and Arizona with the Jacks holding a 2-1 advantage. Odessa has outscored Arizona 12-6 in their three games this year. Sebastien Thinel (three goals, two assists) and Collin Circelli (two goals, three assists) each have five points in the series to lead the Jacks.
Friday vs. Rio Grande Valley, 7:05 PM
Saturday @ Rio Grande Valley, 7:35 PM
Odessa and the Killer Bees have split the two games they've played this year as the road team won both. Rio Grande spoiled the Jacks' home opener with a 2-1 win on October 31st and Odessa returned the favor winning a 5-4 shootout on November 7th. Odessa has outshot the Bees by an 88-67 clip in their two meetings this season. Sebastien Thinel (two goals) is the only multi-goal scorer in the series.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is currently in its 12th season. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
