1- The Southeast Division is flexing its muscles in the early going showing its strength to a tune of 25-14-4 record with three of its teams posting a win percentage of .667 or higher. Leading the way in the division is the Laredo Bucks with 16 points (8-4-0) followed by Texas with 15 points (7-3-1) and Rio Grande Valley with 14 points (6-1-2). The Killer Bees may be third in the division but they have three games in hand on Laredo and two on Texas. The only team in the division without a .500 record or higher is Corpus Christi who has nine points (4-6-1) but outside the division they have an impressive 4-2-1 record. A big inter-division showdown sits on the schedule this week with Laredo hosting Rio Grande Valley on Thursday in the Laredo Entertainment Center.

2- Bossier-Shreveport forward Travis Clayton tied the CHL record for games played on Saturday night with his 708th game played. The next time the veteran steps on the ice he will break the record set by long-time Oklahoma City forward Joe Burton. Clayton is in his first season with the Mudbugs after playing for the Wichita Thunder in each of the last 11 seasons. The Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan native ranks in the CHL's top three in points, goals and assists. The Mudbugs next game is scheduled for Friday night when they play at the Rocky Mountain Rage.

3- The CHL is blessed with a ton of first-year players that have amazing offensive ability. The chase for the CHL's Rookie of the Year Award should be a fun one to watch throughout the 2008-09 season. Leading the way in rookie scoring is New Mexico's Torren Delforte who has barely had an off-night recording points in nine of the Scorps 13 games. His 17 points (7-10=17) also rank him in the league's overall top 10. Oklahoma City's Simon Lambert is the top goal scorer among rookies and tied for third among all players with nine tallies. He is tied for third among rookies with 14 points (9-5=14). Odessa's Jeff Pierce has 16 points (4-12=16) with the most assists (12) among rookies. Laredo's dynamic rookie duo of Jason Dixon (5-9=14) and Darryl Smith (8-5=13) round out the top five scoring rookies.
