Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - After a long six game road trip, the Rapid City Rush were welcomed home on Friday night as they took on the Arizona Sundogs at the Rushmore plaza Civic Center. The Rush outlasted the Sundogs in a 2-1 win with Tim Boron turning away 34 shots and goals by rookie Winston Day Chief and veteran Jesse Shultz. The Rush hit home ice again tomorrow night in a rematch of the Arizona Sundogs. Tickets are available at gotmine.com or by calling 716-7825.
Winston Day Chief gave Rush fans something to cheer about early notching his second goal of the season just 2:13 into the opening frame assisted by Michael Couch. The Rush offense would continue to dominate, out-shooting the Sundogs 12-8 by first intermission.
The Sundogs capitalized on an early power play just 2:17 into the second period with a score by former Rush player Derek LeBlanc. But the Rush offense would get back to work as Jesse Schultz deflected in his 8th goal of the season off of a shot from Michael Couch, who would be credited with his second assist of the night.
Despite a valiant effort on both sides of the ice, the final frame would be dominated by defense. Tim Boron turned away a total of 34 shots throughout the contest, 14 coming just in the third period, en route to a 2-1 victory.
