Brahmas Come Back, Top Cutthroats 4-3

DENVER, Colorado - The Brahmas (26-15-5) completed the comeback Friday night in Denver to defeat the Cutthroats by the final score of 4-3.

The Cutthroats grabbed scored the first goal of the game just 2:15 into the first period when Brad Smyth picked up a loose puck in the Brahmas' zone and snuck it past Fort Worth netminder Kristofer Westblom. The Brahmas evened the score at one goal apiece at 14:44 when Tomas Klempa found the back of the net off an odd-man rush led by Shawn Szydlowski. Szydlowski fed the trailer Sy Nutkevitch, who dished the puck off to Klempa for the easy finish.

Denver regained the one-goal edge just 41 seconds later as Brent Cullaton notched a breakaway goal, his first of the season. Cullaton has not played more than five games in a single season since the 2008-09 campaign when he split the year with the Rocky Mountain Rage and the Laredo Bucks, both members of the Central Hockey League at the time.

The alternating scoring continued in the second period as each team added a score in the middle frame. Fort Worth evened the game for the second time of the night at 6:59 when Calin Wild buried home a rebound past Denver goaltender Kieran Millan. For Wild, the score was his eighth of the season. The Cutthroats took a 3-2 advantage at 16:29 when Cullaton fed Luke Fulghum on the doorstep for his 14th goal of the season.

Shorthanded after a Cole Ruwe tripping minor, the Brahmas evened the score at 3-3 at 3:15 of the third period when Klempa led a 2-on-1 break and wristed the puck by Millan. The goal was Klempa's second of the game and 13th of the season.

Fort Worth grabbed its first lead of the game at 8:30 of the third period when Ross Rouleau scored on a slapshot from the point. For the Brahmas' captain, the goal was his fourth of the season and second in the last five games. It was also Rouleau's first game-winning goal of the season.

Westblom made 23 saves on 26 shots between the posts for the Brahmas to improve to 15-5-3 this season. Millan stopped 20 of 24 shots for Denver in a losing effort.

Winners of six of the their last seven road games, the Brahmas continue their current five-game road trip tomorrow, Saturday, February 9 in Denver to finish out the regular-season series with the expansion Cutthroats. The team returns home Friday, February 15 to host the cross-town rival Allen Americans on Mascot Night at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The game is set for 7:30pm.
