Tulsa Oilers News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Tulsa Oilers are playing their best hockey of the season and finding a way to thrive in pressure situations. Friday night in Wichita, Tulsa earned it's fifth straight win with a 2-1 shootout triumph over the Thunder at Intrust Bank Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Tulsa center Patrick Schafer broke the stalemate when he shoveled a rebound past Wichita goalie Torrie Jung at the 9:13 mark of the second. Justin Fox, playing in just his fourth game since being called up from the SPHL, recorded his first assist as an Oiler and Tulsa carried the 1-0 edge into the second intermission.
Jarred Mohr blast from the blue line at 2:53 of the third found its way through traffic and past Oilers goalie Shane Madolora to level the score.
The longtime rivals remained tied through regulation and overtime, forcing the second shootout in their last two meetings. Ryan Menei and Ben Gordon were able to solve Jung while Madolora stopped each of the first three shooters he faced. Neil Trimm kept the Thunder's hopes alive with a quick snap shot, but Fox foiled Jung with a low wrist shot to seal the victory for the visitors.
Madolora, in net for each of the Oilers five straight wins, was sensational once again. The rookie netminder made 41 saves and improved his record to 9-9-1.
The Oilers, on their longest win streak since March of 2011, have won five of six overall and two in a row in Wichita. Tulsa is back in action tomorrow night at Missouri with face off set for 7:05 p.m.
