Sundogs Fall Short in 2-1 Loss against Rapid City

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs fell short in a 2-1 loss against the Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Friday night. Arizona's winning streak came to an end at four.

Adam Russo, Arizona Sundogs netminder received his third start in the Sundogs last three games. The Rapid City Rush would strike first with a wrister from the left wing. Winston Day-Chief scored the goal for his team, his first of the season giving Rapid City the advantage going into the second period.

Rapid City's Riley Weselowski picked up two minutes for crossing check sending the Sundogs on the power play. Arizona would benefit from the man advantage when Derek LeBlanc scored, putting the Sundogs on the board, 2:17 into the second frame. Jason Morgan and Mario Larocque both were credited with assists. On the heels of Arizona's goal, Rapid City's Rusty Masters was called for hooking giving the Sundogs a 5-on-3 power play for 53 seconds but were unable to capitalize. With less than six minutes left Jesse Schultz would regain the lead for Rapid City.

Both teams fought hard in the final period with Arizona looking to gain the lead. Both goalies were near impenetrable despite the combined 26 shots on net in the third. Arizona pulled goaltender Russo with one minute remaining in regulation giving them the man advantage. With 41 seconds left Chad Nehring and Scott Brannon were each issued two minutes for roughing but Arizona was unable to take the lead with a 5-on-4 play.

Russo took the loss for the Sundogs making 30 saves. Arizona outshot Rapid City 35-32. The Sundogs were 1-2 on the power play while the Rush were 0-1 on power play. Arizona will conclude their road trip when they meet Rapid City for their final game in a two game set tomorrow in South Dakota.
