Iowa Cubs News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - The Iowa Cubs (25-30) used a trio of home runs against the Louisville Bats (31-23) to guide them to a 6-4 victory on Friday night.
After a scoreless first inning, it was David Bote who got the scoring started on the night in the second. Bote hit his seventh home run, a solo shot, off the left field foul pole to give Iowa the early lead. Louisville countered right back, however, and tied the game at 1-1 off an RBI single by Austin Wynns.
Iowa used the long ball again to retake the lead in the third and this time it came off the bat of Cole Roederer. Roederer, who was just recently promoted to Iowa from Double-A Tennessee, sent a two-run blast to right field putting the I-Cubs back in front, 3-1.
The I-Cubs would then see their lead turn into a deficit in the fourth as Louisville plated three runs to jump out in front. Conner Capel brought home the first run of the inning for the Bats on an RBI single, and P.J. Higgins immediately followed with a two-run home run.
The back-and-forth action continued in the sixth as Iowa hit its third home run of the game. With two runners on, Miles Mastrobuoni took Lyon Richardson deep with an opposite field, three-run shot making the score 6-4.
The 6-4 score held for the remainder of the game as Iowa's bullpen capped Louisville's offense to just one hit over the final three innings to secure the win.
POSTGAME NOTES:
