Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Sean Burke was activated off the injured list before the game and was sharp in his season debut, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game four of the six-game series against the Worcester Red Sox by a score of 13-4 on Friday night in front of 8,556 fans -- the largest crowd of the season at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to an RBI double by left fielder Zach DeLoach. Although the WooSox battled right back to score a run in the top of the third inning, the Knights fought back and took a 3-1 lead thanks to a two-run single by shortstop Colson Montgomery in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Charlotte held a 3-1 lead until the top of the seventh inning when the WooSox began to mount a comeback against the Charlotte bullpen. Worcester right fielder Bobby Dalbec tied the game at 3-3 thanks to a big two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.
One inning later, the WooSox took a big lead, scoring six runs in the frame. Charlotte RHP Deivi García (1-2, 11.57) was saddled with the loss after he was charged with allowing all six runs in just 0.2 innings pitched. In all, the Charlotte bullpen allowed 12 of the 13 runs on the evening. The WooSox scored 12 runs over the final three innings of the game.
Making his first start with the Knights in nearly a year (June 10, 2023), Burke twirled a terrific outing. A native of Worcester, MA, Burke fanned eight Worcester batters over three innings. He allowed just one run, walked three batters and threw 60 pitches (35 for strikes).
Offensively, Mark Payton continued his hot hitting with two hits and extended his hit streak to nine consecutive games. Montgomery led the way with three RBI.
The two teams will continue the six-game set on Saturday afternoon from Truist Field. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call beginning at 1:00 p.m. on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. from Uptown Charlotte on Saturday. Fans can also watch the game live on My 12 WMYT starting at 1:00 p.m. with Matt, Mike and Dick Cooke in the booth for all of the action.
