Durham Bulls News Release
Jacksonville, FL - Curtis Mead drilled a three-run homer in the third inning to help the Durham Bulls defeat the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 6-4 on Friday night at 121 Financial Park.
Durham (24-31), which won its third straight game for the first time of the season, jumped on Max Meyer in the third inning on Mead's two-out blast. Jacksonville (24-31) tied the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice against opener Carlos Garcia and once against Erasmo Ramirez (W, 2-0).
The next three runs scored were thanks to a pair of Jacksonville errors. The Bulls pushed across two in the sixth after an error by Jacksonville second baseman Tristan Gray. Tristan Peters followed with an RBI-groundout for a 5-3 lead. In the seventh, centerfielder Javier Sanoja booted fielding a Josh Lowe single, permitting Kameron Misner to score.
Jacksonville threatened in the eighth against reliever Nelson Alvarez. An infield single began the inning before Alvarez issued three straight one-out walks to force in a run. Tyler Zuber (S, 3) entered to escape the jam, then retired the final two Jumbo Shrimp batters representing the tying run to close out the victory.
Lowe, who joined the Bulls earlier in the day on a major league rehab, was 2-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored.
The series continues Saturday with Angel Sanchez (2-0, 1.64) slated to start against Jacksonville's Roddery Munoz (2-3, 4.93) at 6:35 PM ET
