
Miscues Cost Jacksonville in 6-4 Loss to Durham

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp let opportunities slip away in their 6-4 loss to the Durham Bulls in front of 6,496 fans, Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.
With the game tied at three, Durham (24-31) regained the lead in the top of the sixth. Josh Lowe singled off Jacksonville (24-31) reliever Devin Smeltzer (L, 1-2) and Curtis Mead was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Ruben Cardenas reached on an error that allowed Lowe to score from second giving the Bulls a 4-3 lead. Mead went to third on the error and scored on a groundout from Tristan Peters increasing the advantage to 5-3.
Durham added to their lead in the top of the seventh. Kameron Misner walked. A Josh Lowe singled, coupled with an error allowed Misner to score pushing the lead to three.
After two scoreless frames, the Bulls took the initial lead. With one out, CJ Hinojosa singled and Misner walked. Two batters later, Mead (3) walloped a three-run homer for an initial 3-0 lead for Durham.
Jacksonville answered immediately in the bottom of the third. Jonathan Davis was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Two batters later, Javier Sanoja knocked him in with a double cutting the deficit to 3-1. During Avisaíl García's at-bat, Sanoja reached third on a passed ball and then scored on a throwing error on Durham backstop Rob Brantly. Down by a run, García tripled and scored on a base hit from Jonah Bride tying the game at three.
Jacksonville and Durham continue the series Saturday at 6:35 p.m. from 121 Financial Ballpark. RHP Roddery Muñoz (2-3, 4.93) will make the start and Durham will counter with RHP Ángel Sánchez (2-0, 1.64) will. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on Bally Live, MLB.tv, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690, and espn690.com.
