Helena Bighorns News Release

The Bighorns returned home for their first home game since October 9, facing the Fairbanks Ice Dogs following an eight-game road swing (4-2-2), and riding a four-game win streak.

Having gone 0 for 2 in their first two home games, the Bighorns were determined to have a better showing for the home fans. Helena got off to a good start as Cory Mozak stole the puck from a Fairbanks defender and dished it across to Scott Tittle (who just missed on a breakaway the night before), and he buried it for the short-handed tally and a lead the 'Horns would never relinquish.

Eric Griffin netted his first of the year on the power play at 9:44, and the Bighorns led 2-0 after one period.

The second period saw Brandon Marino light the lamp on the power play at 2:22, and the 'Horns led 3-0 after two

.

The Fernie Connection was completed at 2:11 of the third when Jeff Olitch roofed a goal on the power play for a 4-0 Helena lead. All four former Ghostriders -- Griffin, Marino, Olitch and Travis Whitehead -- had a point in the game.

But the resilient Ice Dogs refused to lie down on the porch, and pumped in two late goals to make it interesting. But the 'Horns held on for the 4-2 win, their fifth consecutive victory, improving to 8-5-2 on the year, just three points out of first place in the NAHL West.

The Bighorns return to the ice Friday, November 5, when Fairbanks returns for the final meeting of the year between the clubs. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
