Helena Bighorns News Release
Approximately 30 players from all parts of the country will be making the trek this weekend in hopes of landing a spot on this year's edition of the Helena Bighorns. The Bighorns main camp gets underway Friday morning in at the Helena Ice Arena and culminates with the 6th Annual Blue/White Classic on Sunday at 7:00 pm.
Bighorn President Mike Butters is nervously excited about the players that will come in and try to defend the NorPac Championship Trophy that has been in Helena the last two years. "Sure, I'm nervous. This is the time of the year we all get nervous. We are retooling and until this weekend, we really don't know what we have." Butters said that up to 7 players are gone from last year's championship team that went on to win the first game at USA Nationals. NorPac went three straight years without a victory at Nationals prior to the Bighorns 3-1 win over the Boston Junior Bruins last season.
Mixed in with the tension is the comfort that the Bighorns will have some familiar faces back for the 06-07 campaign. Veterans Rob Meyer, Rob Knott, Levi Diehl, Joe Allen, Brian Lawson and Dustin Goodenough are set to return. The Bighorns will also have some shifty rookies in camp ready to make an impression with Bighorn fans. Forwards Rusty Roe, Brett Siegel, Bobby Bonnett and Jeremy Maki have impressed the coaching staff this summer. Also making an impact were defensemen Joel Cavanaugh and Mike Marino. Newcomer Paul Sutton-Jones and Kevin Maile are two goaltenders looking to replace the services of Josh Ex.
The camp opens with games Friday morning and evening and continue into Saturday with the same format. Following Saturday night's contest, the Bighorns coaching staff will assemble their Blue White lineups for Sunday night's game. Admission for training camp is free. The price for Sunday's game is $5.00.
