Helena Bighorns News Release

The Helena Bighorns haven't wasted any time in recruiting as they have already inked two players to tender sheets for the upcoming 2006-2007 season. The Big Blue have signed forward Brett Siegel and defenseman Joel Cavanaugh.

Siegel (18) had a solid year for the Alaska Blue Devils last season, posting 11 goals and 16 assists in 23 games. The 6'0", 190 lb. forward should provide the ‘Horns with some instant scoring and solid two-way play. "Brett was a standout this weekend," said Bighorns President, Mike Butters. "He has solid skills and he is built for junior hockey. His work ethic and persistence should take him a long way this year."

The Bighorns have added some size on the blue-line in inking Cavanaugh (18). The 6'3", 195 lb. defenseman will give the ‘Horns a solid base at that position. "Joel is a cut from the defenseman we are accustomed to in Helena. He uses his size well and moves well for a big guy," said Butters. "We expect Joel to dedicate himself to preparing for this season between now and training camp and feel he has the tools to excel for us."

Both players were seen at the Alaska Junior Showcase in Anchorage this past weekend hosted by Dennis Sorenson of the Alaska All-Stars and Rob Proffitt of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. According to Butters, there were a few good prospects and he has come to expect good players from Alaska. "We have had some good players from Alaska in the past and these two are no different. You can't teach effort and the players from that region have a great deal of it."

Next up for the Bighorns is signing at least 8 more players to tender sheets before their main training camp, which will begin in late August. The coaching staff is expected to run their air miles up as they are attending as many as 6 prospect camps between now and August 1. The team is also putting together their season ticket packages together and have been hard at work signing corporate partners for this season. "Entering our 6th season, we really want to put the emphasis on customer satisfaction and put on a good show for our supporters," said Butters. Expect the Bighorns to release their ticket plans in the next couple of weeks.
