Helena Bighorns News Release

The Helena Bighorns have added a well known figure to their coaching staff for the upcoming 2006-2007. Bob Richards, a former standout for the Helena Ice Pirates will assist Coach Scott Cunningham as the Bighorns (nee Cutthroats) vie for their 3rd straight Cascade Cup title.

Richards (27) had a prominent playing career, playing with the Ice Pirates from 1996-1999 before captaining Wayne State University for two seasons. Richards then transferred to Salem State College for the next two years where he graduated with a chemistry degree.

Bighorn President, Mike Butters was exuberant about the addition of Richards. "Bob was a very popular player that longtime Helena fans will remember. He was a hard-nosed player who demanded 100% of himself and I have no doubt he will instill the same work ethic into his players."

In addition to his duties with the junior club, Richards will assist with day to operations of the Helena Ice Arena.

Richards is looking forward to his return to the Queen City. "The supports of hockey in Helena are great. I learned a great deal while playing there and I can't wait to get there and get to work."

Richards is already on the recruiting trail with stops in Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota, before he will make the journey to Helena to begin his assistant coaching duties.

The Bighorns will be conducting their main camp beginning August 18th at the Helena Ice Arena.
