Langley, BC - Goaltender Braden Holt saved all 35 shots he faced in his first game in net for the Victoria Royals as they defeated the Vancouver Giants 3-0 on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old joined the club less than a day ago after he was acquired in a trade with the Everett Silvertips. Wednesday's game marked the seventh shutout of Holt's career and his second of the 2022-2023 season.
Victoria also benefited from a solid offensive performance by forward Brayden Schuurman, who scored twice in the third to seal the win for his team.
Forward Jake Poole would score the only other goal in the game early in the third period, successfully expanding his point streak to four games and moving his point total to 33 (18 goals, 15 assists) on the season.
Vancouver (14-16-3-2) goaltender Jesper Vikman played a solid game for the second straight night, recording 26 saves on 28 shots while holding the Royals scoreless for their first 40 minutes of the contest.
Jake Poole (18) would collect the first goal of the game for Victoria (8-24-3-0) at the 0:45 mark of the third after the previous two periods passed without a goal from either side.
That would be followed by a marker by forward Brayden Schuurman (7), who would strike at the 7:38 mark of the third to bring the score to 2-0, with linemate Marcus Almquist collecting the lone assist.
Schuurman (8) would then add an unassisted empty netter at the 19:33 mark to cap a two-goal night and secure the 3-0 victory for the Royals.
The Royals and Giants will face off for the third and final time this week on Friday night in Victoria, where puck-drop is set for 7:05 pm at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
The Royals make their return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on December 30th when they take on the Giants for a third straight game on Trades Night, presented by Milestone Equipment Contracting. You can get tickets.
