Bedard Ties Canadian Single Game Points Record

Regina Pats News Release

HALIFAX, N.S. - Connor Bedard tied the single game Canadian World Juniors record for points in a game with seven (3G-4A) leading Canada to an 11-2 win over Germany on Wednesday night, moving to 1-1 on the tournament.

"It is pretty cool [to tie a record]. There are some pretty big names on that list, but it is not a huge deal for me," Connor Bedard said. "I got a couple lucky goals, so it was just one of those nights where the things go your way. I was just happy to get the win."

He now has 13 career World Juniors goals (including the rescheduled December tournament), which is one away from tying the Canadian World Junior' record for goals, as it's currently held by Regina Pats alumnus Jordan Eberle who scored 14.

"We were pretty hungry today, wanting to bounce back after the first game," Bedard added. "We were pretty upset after that one. We were physical tonight, backchecking hard and doing those little things. I thought we played a good overall game."

Six other Canadian skaters found the back of the net in the victory, as Dylan Guenther scored a hat-trick while Brandt Clarke, Joshua Roy, Logan Stankoven, Shane Wright and Zack Ostapchuk rounded out the scoring. Thomas Milic got the start in net, making 14 saves on 16 shots. The final shots were 52-16 for Canada.

Canada has now won 27 of 28 games between the teams in U20 history, the lone German victory, 7-6, coming back in 1981. Canada set another U20 record with five power-play goals in the second period, and the teams combined for eight PPG, tying another record (CAN 7-GER 1).

Bedard's seven points in a game are the most in his junior hockey career, surpassing his career high of five set in the WHL with the Pats five different times.

Looking at the tournament leaders, Bedard leads the tournament in points with eight through just two contests, while Pats defenceman Stanislav Svozil sits in second with five points. Bedard's four goals are first, while Svozil's four assists are tied for first with Bedard.
