Regina Pats News Release

Halifax, NS - Pats captain Connor Bedard and defenceman Stanislav Svozil were in action on Thursday, as Canada defeated Austria 11-0 while Czechia fell 3-2 in overtime to Sweden following a late comeback in the third to gather a point.

Connor Bedard tallied six points (2G-4A) in Canada's 11-0 win over Austria, tying Pats alumnus Jordan Eberle for the Canadian World Junior' record for goals with his 13th and 14th goals of his World Junior' career.

The North Vancouver product now has 14 points (6G-8A) in three games thus far in the tournament, which is more than Connor McDavid tallied for Canada in his draft year back in 2015, as he recorded 11 points (3G-8A) in 7 games. Eric Lindros has the Canadian World Junior record for points as a 17-year-old in the tournament with 17 points (6G-11A) in seven games back in 1991.

To make things even more impressive, Bedard now has 27 career World Junior' points, which is second on the all-time Canadian World Junior points list, now sitting four points behind Lindros for the record of 31.

After a slow start to the contest where Canada couldn't score for the first 14 minutes of the game, Dylan Guenther and Zach Dean got the Canadians going, opening the scoring for Canada. Bedard would then pick up a primary assist on Shane Wright's marker to make it 3-0 late in the first period. Canada led 3-0 after one.

In the second period, Bedard would score his fifth of the tournament, roofing a bad angle shot off the backbar and straight out.

In the third, Bedard would finish the night with his sixth point and second goal, tying the Canadian goal record.

Lukas Horl was named the player of the game for Austria and Logan Stankoven was named the player of the game for Canada with a four-point game.

Canada now has six points with one more round robin game left, as they sit 2-1-0 with their final game on Saturday against Sweden who are first in Group A.
