Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA (December 5, 2006) - The first-place Johnstown Chiefs have planned exciting promotions for the holiday season.
On Saturday, December 9, the Chiefs, in conjunction with Cool 101 and the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program will hold the eighth annual Toys for Tots Toy Toss. After the Chiefs score their first goal of the game, Chiefs fans are invited to throw a stuffed animal onto the ice. There will also be a collection bin for other toys in the lobby prior to the game, and all toys will be donated to Toys for Tots.
"The Toys For Tots toy toss is a great way for fans to help make the holiday season a lot brighter for underprivileged children," said Chiefs Director of Broadcasting and Public Relations Leif Skodnick. "It's a fun promotion that fans, staff, and players look forward to every year. I've already picked up a stuffed moose that I'm going to throw from the broadcast booth."
Also on Saturday, Food For Families will hold a food drive benefiting local families in need on Saturday. Every Chiefs fan who donates food will be entered to win one of over 30 prizes, including two $500 U.S. Savings Bonds, courtesy of AmeriServ Financial.
"It's great to see an organization like Food for Families working hard to provide for the needy," Chiefs President Jim Weber stated. "Providing for the hungry is something everyone can do, and it's our goal to help those in our community. We're happy to help Food For Families."
Also on Saturday, the first 2,500 fans ages 18 or older to come through the gate will receive a voucher for a free $1 instant ticket compliments of the Pennsylvania Lottery and Sheetz.
After every Sunday afternoon Chiefs home game with the exception of New Year's Eve, fans are invited to bring their skates and skate with the Chiefs after every game. Skate With The Chiefs provides fans with a great chance to get autographs and meet and skate with their favorite players on the War Memorial ice.
"Our players love coming out to skate with the fans on Sundays," stated Skodnick. "It's a great chance for kids and fans alike to meet the players. It's something that not a lot of teams do and it creates lasting memories for our young fans and their parents."
Fans attending the December 16 game against Cincinnati will be invited onto the ice following the game's completion for the opportunity to shoot a puck down the ice and into a special goal to win a free ham courtesy of Kunzler's! Some lucky fans will also have the opportunity to have a Chiefs player shoot for them.
Tickets for both Saturday's game against Reading and Sunday's game against Bakersfield are still available and can be purchased at the War Memorial box office or by calling (814) 536-5156 or 1 (800) CHF-TIXX.
