Hogs top Dogs 5-1 at the MetroCentre

Rockford, Ill.- For the second straight night the Rockford IceHogs knocked off an opponent 5-1 at the Rockford MetroCentre. This time it was the Richmond RiverDogs in front of 4,482. Rockford had five different goal scorers and had a season high 53 shots on goal on RiverDogs goaltender Mike D'Alessandro.

The Hogs grabbed the game's first goal just 36 seconds into the contest. Center Olivier Proulx fired home a Yannick Tifu pass, past D'Alessandro. Richmond responded while killing off of a power play later in the first. Winger Mike Oliveira beat Hogs goalie Michel Robinson on a shorthanded breakaway at 4:39 to tie the contest.

Rockford broke the game open in the second frame. Defenseman Corey Hessler blasted home a power play goal at 7:45 to give Rockford the 2-1 advantage. Later, center Preston Mizzi backhanded his 12th of the season past D'Alessandro at 15:42. Rookie winger Robin Big Snake put the finishing touches on a dominating period with a goal at 16:12.

In the third period, Tifu knocked in a shorthanded marker for Rockford at 1:29, to put the final nail in the coffin. The IceHogs 53 shots on goal were one shy of the club record of 54 set during the 2001-02 season. Mizzi set a club record with 13 shots on goal for the game. D'Alessandro made 48 saves in the loss while Robinson picked up his second straight win making 27 saves.
