Hogan Closes Door on Sundogs, Earns 2nd Career Shutout

Wichita, KS (March 18th) - Rookie goalie Bryan Hogan has been quite a find for the Thunder. The former University of Michigan product has been lights-out for Wichita (43-16-3), earning his second professional shutout with a 4-0 win over the Arizona Sundogs (17-37-9) Sunday afternoon at INTRUST Bank Arena. Brett Hemingway and Kevin Seibel each had two points while four different players found the back of the net. Wichita needs one more point to clinch the Berry Conference Division title and home-ice in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Wichita can still clinch the Governor's Cup as the Thunder has an eight-point lead on Fort Wayne with four games left for both teams.
Wichita came out strong in the first period, dominating time of possession while outshooting Arizona 11-6. However, the Thunder was unable to capitalize on a power play and found themselves in a scoreless tie after the first 20 minutes.
Matt Robinson (33) scored the first goal for the Thunder at 5:51 of the second period. Matt Summers caught a Seibel feed in the slot and dished it off to Robinson who was able to put in the upper corner to make it 1-0. Wichita was penalized nine times in the second, but managed to score a short-handed goal from Alex Bourret (18) at 11:09 to make it 2-0. Shortly after, Bourret got tangled up with Luke Erickson and was tossed from the game as he received 29 minutes in penalties. Wichita was able to kill off a seven-minute power play that included a five-on-three.
The Thunder continued to pour salt in the wound as RG Flath (20) scored off of a steal behind the Arizona net at 6:39 of the third period. Hemingway stole the puck from the defender on the end-wall, left it for Flath who then curled in front of Arizona starter Scott Bowles and scored to make it 3-0. Wichita added another with 8:20 left in the contest as Kevin Young (2) scored a power play tally with a rocket from the blue line. Hogan took it from there and Wichita won 4-0.
Bryan Hogan improved to 10-1-0 in 12 appearances with Wichita and his second pro shutout, stopping all 27 shots he faced. Wichita goalies have a combined four shutouts, with each being recorded on home-ice. Matt Summers added an assist to extend his point streak to six games. Robinson tallied his 72nd goal all-time in a Thunder uniform and is alone in first place in the CHL in game-winning-goals (10).
The Thunder penalty kill was outstanding over the weekend. Wichita went six-for-six against the Sundogs and has killed off its last 14 penalties as Quad City was 0-for-six while the Sundogs went 0-for-two last night.
Wichita won for the 24th time on home-ice and is just two wins shy of tying its all-time home record set back in 1993-94 (26). With one more victory, Wichita will tie its all-time win total off 44, set back in 1994-95.
