Oilers Still Winless Against Mavericks After 3-2 Loss

March 18, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Tulsa Oilers gave absolutely everything they had in an effort to beat the Missouri Mavericks for the first time on Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. The kitchen sink was thrown as the Oilers fired a season-high 48 shots at Mavs goalie Charlie Effinger but still came up a goal short in a 3-2 loss.

After Missouri took an early 2-0 lead, Tulsa forward David Solway chipped in a rebound to bring the Oilers back within a goal before the first period expired.

The only goal of the second period came off the stick of Missouri's Kris Hogg who buried a rebound for the Mavs second powerplay goal of the game.

With three minutes left in third, Oilers rookie Mike Ullrich capitalized on a Mavericks turnover by wristing a change-up over the glove of Effinger to bring Tulsa within striking distance. Despite a furious flurry of shots and chances in front of Effinger over the final minutes, the puck stayed out and the Oilers were handed their ninth straight road loss. The Oilers outshot the Mavs 24-8 in the final frame, but in the end, Tulsa failed to score three goals for the twelfth time in the last 14 outings.

The Oilers and Mavs will complete their weekend home series tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at the BOK Center.
