Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, were defeated by the Dayton Gems 9-1.
The Laredo Bucks faced off against the Dayton Gems for the first time in franchise history on Sunday afternoon. This was the third straight game for the road weary Bucks. The Bucks would once again be without Rusty Masters and Matt Hanson in the line-up.
As the first period began, both teams had several shots on goal. The first ten minutes both teams just skated from zone to zone. The Gems took control the second half of the opening frame lighting the lamp three times to gain a commanding 3-0 lead. All three goals were scored in just over three minutes of play. The Bucks did outshoot the Gems 11-10.
The Gems controlled the game offensively once again during the second period. Nick Fanto blasted a shot from the face-off circle at 4:53, giving Dayton a 4-0 lead. At 8:15 Kyle Bochek scored a goal and the Gems took a 5-0 lead. The fifth goal forced a goalie change for the Bucks. Torrie Jung relieved Ryan Rondeau in net. Rondeau had faced 19 shots and made 14 saves. Immediately following the goalie change, Justin Styffe dropped the mitts versus Matt Baxter trying to change the momentum of the game. Torrie Jung wouldn't fair much better in net, as the Gems would tally two more goals during the second period. The Gems outshot the Bucks 18-9 during the period.
Laredo would finally get on the board at 3:56 into the final period of play. Matt Boyd fired a blast off the face-off from the top of the circle. Ryan Sparling had the lone assist on the goal. The Bucks successfully killed off the only penalty of the game at 5:47. The Gems would score two more goals in the third period to give Dayton the 9-1 victory.
The Bucks will remain on the road for their final 3 games of the 2011-2012 regular season. Laredo will face the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday, March 20th, at 7pm. The Bucks will host a watch party at Hal's Landing as they face the Oilers for the final time this season.
