Hockey Hooky Will Entertain And Educate

October 27, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

The Edmonton Oil Kings hosted a rally today at Ecole Greenfield Elementary School to announce their plans to host the largest and loudest field trip of the year. On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, CN Hockey Hooky will have students from all over Oil Country on the edge of their seats. The youth will experience the excitement of a WHL game, and they will get a unique educational lesson tailored to the game of hockey. The Oil Kings will play the Kootenay Ice at 11:30 am, when Rexall Place will be transformed into a giant classroom.

The educational component of the Oil Kings game will include worksheets for the students to fill out during the contest. Information on the Oil Kings and the game of hockey will be revealed during breaks in the action. The Edmonton Oilers ICE School will help develop the educational component and it will feature curriculum connections to Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Art, Music and Health.

There will also be plenty of entertainment throughout the game with various competitions, games and prizes for the students. There will be concession specials for students who choose to eat at Rexall Place, and bag lunches will be allowed for those who want to bring their own food.

Interested schools and classes can sign up online at oilkings.ca. Once the application is received, the Oil Kings will line up a corporate partner from our Adopt A School program to cover the costs of the tickets, so this special field trip is very affordable. The Edmonton Capitals hosted Home Run Hooky this past summer and it was a big success drawing one of the largest crowds of the year.

The Oil Kings are also looking for corporate partners for the Adopt A School program. If your business is interested in being part of CN Hockey Hooky, please call 414-GOAL.

Thank you for supporting the Edmonton Oil Kings and we will see you at Rexall Place!!
