Hobson Continues Good Series in 6-3 Loss

MANCHESTER, N.H. - A two-run rally gave the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but they couldn't hold off the New Britain Rock Cats in a 6-3 loss on Sunday afternoon. K.C. Hobson picked up his third RBI of the series, but the Fisher Cats (66-75) lost for the ninth time in eleven games with one to go in the 2014 season.

New Britain (72-69) took a first inning lead when Eddie Rosario belted his second home run in as many games to right field for a 1-0 lead.

The Fisher Cats rallied to take the lead in the fifth with the bottom of the order providing the spark. Melky Mesa led off with a double, and then scored when Derrick Chung laced a double to right-center. After starter Adrian Salcedo recorded the second out, Jorge Flores brought home Chung to take a 2-1 lead.

The advantage was short-lived for the Fisher Cats as New Britain struck for three in the bottom of the frame against starter ben White. Mike Kvasnicka led off with a walk and later scored on a double by Kyle Knudson to even the game at 2-2. Corey Wimberly added a run-scoring hit before a sac fly from Eddie Rosario put the Rock Cats on top, 4-2.

White left the game with two outs in the fifth, leaving the bases loaded for Scott Gracey. The relief pitcher got out of the jam on one pitch to keep it a 4-2 contest. White was charged with four runs over 4.2 innings allowing six hits while striking out seven to take his first Double-A loss. He finished 2014 with a 7-7 record between Dunedin and New Hampshire.

After the Rock Cats added an insurance in the sixth, the Fisher Cats answered in the eighth. Matt Newman doubled in front of a walk to Andy Burns. K.C. Hobson followed with his third RBI of the series to make it a 5-3 game. The Fisher Cats ended up stranding two runner sin the inning, and stranded six over their final five at-bats. In the series they have stranded 16 runners, 12 in scoring position.

New Britain tacked on its final run in the bottom of the frame against Dustin Antolin. Cole Johnson stranded John Berti in the ninth to seal the win for New Britain.
