Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C. - Sam Smith fired eight strong allowing just one run on Saturday night as the Thomasville HiToms downed the homestanding Wilson Tobs, 5-1 at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Thomasville (23-28, 11-12) used a four-run sixth inning to open up a one run game. Jake Overbey delivered an RBI single with one out to score DeSean Anderson who walked to begin the frame with a walk off Brent Bonvillian (L, 1-2) and following an errant pickoff throw, Overbey scored the second run of the inning and after another pair of hits, the HiToms held a 5-0 lead.

Wilson (18-33, 9-14) managed just a single run against Smith (W, 3-1) when Cambric Moye launched a lead-off home run over the wall in left field. However, that would be as close as Wilson would come as the Tobs dropped their fourth in-a-row.

The Tobs return to action on Monday night at 7:05 when they welcome the Fayetteville SwampDogs to Historic Fleming Stadium.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 53 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
