Forest City Owls News Release
Gastonia, NC- The Forest City Owls were victimized by a trio of late runs and fell 5-2 to the Gastonia Grizzlies early Saturday morning. The Grizzlies took the Midnight Madness game behind Brad Clement's bases-loaded single, followed by Tyler White's two-run base hit, snapping a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 8th inning. Both hits came against Owls' closer Jake Padgett, but were charged to Jason Driver who ended up with his second loss of the season.
The Owls broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 5th inning. Nate Chong lined a base hit through the left side to score Kurt Seiders and put Forest City in front 1-0. The Grizzlies answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. White walked and Billy Urban singled with one out. Then, David Reid-Foley drilled a double to left field, scoring both runners to give the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead. Forest City tied it up in the top half of the 8th when Dale Innes threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Champ Rowland to score.
Prior to the game, Will Chandler topped Gastonia's Jordan Hunt to win a Home Run Derby. Chandler totaled eight home runs over the three rounds he batted, including an opposite field shot and one that cleared the stadium wall, beyond the normal outfield wall at Sims Legion Park.
The Owls take to the diamond again later on tonight at McNair Field for the only meeting with the Fayetteville Swampdogs this season. There will be a fireworks show after the game.
