SwampDogs Sprint Through Forest City

July 28, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- The Forest City Owls held the Fayetteville Swampdogs in check for the first six innings, but the `Dogs got loose and ran past the Owls 5-1 on Saturday night. Fayetteville scored four of its five runs over the final four innings, benefiting from a number of stolen bases. They also got a terrific pitching performance from Keith Picht, who allowed just one unearned run in his first start of the season to earn his third win.

Adam Westmoreland pitched well on the other side for Forest City, striking out eight batters over seven innings of work, matching the most K's by a starter this year. Bryan Aanderud extended his hit streak to a team-high 14 games with a 2nd inning. Aanderud also drove in the only Owls run of the game on a fielder's choice in the 4th inning. He and Nate Chong have now both eclipsed 30 RBI on the season.

Forest City had ample opportunities to score against both Picht and Fayetteville closer Tyler Brunnemann. However, the Owls left ten men on base, including at least one in every inning except the 1st and 9th. The best opportunity came with runners on first and third with one out in the 6th inning against Picht, but the righty retired pinch-hitter Stephen Tarkenton with a strikeout and then got Mark Lindsay to ground out, ending the threat.

The Owls head to Asheboro for the final meeting with the Copperheads tomorrow night. Forest City will be back home to wrap up the season series against the Gastonia Grizzlies. It will be a Hoot n'Annie Hoedown with all fans encouraged to break out the Western wear. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
